A New Yacht Class – Maltese Falcon

Tom Perkins created one of the most sensational three-masted sailing boats of the last 100 years and built the 88-metre Maltese Falcon with Perini Navi. Launched in 2006, the project took about six years to complete. With radical unfolded poles made of 'weapon grade'? Carbon fiber, computerized sail and direct control system and fast boat, the Maltese Falcon and especially the FalconRig, were considered a design, development and engineering victory.

Damon Roberts of Insensys, Ltd. was responsible for designing and producing Maldivi Falcon's DynaRig at the Perini Navi plant in Tuzla, Istanbul. The design, testing and production of the system was completed over a period of three years.

Perkins described the system of direct and sail control as almost insignificant, with its simplicity. ". I can teach any sailor how to handle a yacht in five minutes. As far as I know, this is not the case on another big boat with a reel."

DynaRig, which cost $80 million, owes its origins to Wilhelm Prölss' research in the 1960s. The DynaRig consists of rigid slit independent rotating poles and serves as a square equipment. Each of the Maltese Falcon's masts supports six metres of built-in cambers, as opposed to a traditional square crest machine. Fifteen square sails are set between slits, where each pole has no space left in the sailing plan and moves like a single wing. Furry sails are stored inside the mast and can be fully collected within 6 minutes. With no equipment on the mast, poles and baners can be rotated without restrictions for all sailing points, making the Maltese Falcon a skilled upwind shear.

The yacht is easily controlled and it has been seen to move away unassisted from the docks and piers in the harbor. The yacht's advanced computer automatically detects parameters such as wind speed and displays key data. An operator should always check the controls. In a December 2007 radio interview for BBC World Service's Global Business programme, Perkins claimed that the yacht had personally written some of the control software.

"The creation and evolution of the floating masterpiece was a journey that included some of the brightest minds in the great yacht arena. If you're lucky enough to spend some time with wherever you see him or on board, you'll discover how extraordinary it is.

This incredible super cruiser has a maximum range of 18 knots and 3,000 nautical miles at a normal cruising speed of 14 knots, making the Malta Falcon a final ship. Whether it's for a wide range of fun between smart anchors or a superyacht that you need to experience once on your lifetime blue ocean. the second time was voted "Best Super Yacht" and won the Superyacht World Cup; Maltese Falcon, which offers rental guests the most glamorous life on board, has gained the role of the most luxurious and magnificent ship on the market today.

In 2009, Tom Perkins sold the Maltese Falcon to Elena Ambrosiadou, the hedge-fund manager who used it for only a few weeks in Malta and leased him somewhere else. The Maltese Falcon is currently on loan for €350,000 per week for summer in the Mediterranean and winter months in the Caribbean.
