What is NAVTEX?

It is a communication device system that provides information to the denzists about weather forecasts, navigational information, urgency, safety and areas where work is carried out at sea. It works like an international fax machine. Ships and boats must have a Navtex device to receive existing broadcasts.

Navtex broadcasts from the frequency of MF, i.e. medium wavelength. Publications can be sent up to a distance of approximately 400 nautical miles (740 km). It is also part of the GMDSS unit (Global Sea Hazard and Safety System). Navtex broadcasts every four hours. No more than 10 minutes of broadcasting.

What are Navtex frequencies?

Different frequencies are used to reach national messages and international messages to the region.

490 kHz : MF-Medium frequency. It is the national yandex publication. It is in the national language and information is published within the national maritime borders.

518 kHz : MF-Medium frequency. It is an international yandex publication. published in English.

4209.5 kHz : HF-High frequency. HF frequency is often used in oceans and at distant latitude, where MF medium wavelengths cannot reach. It is international and publishes in English.
