Wooden Boat Selection

If you plan to choose a wooden boat, you should remember that their maintenance is heavy. Wooden boats can live for close to a hundred years, when well taken care of. Every year they should be taken ashore, the wooden bodies should be thoroughly dried, if necessary, burned and a protective paint should be thrown on top. In today's conditions, where labor is more expensive every day, wooden boat users pay much more maintenance costs than fiber boats.

Wooden boats are heavier than fiber boats produced under today's conditions. Heavy boats are more displacement and weight, certainly more seatable in rough wave conditions. However, this weight will slow the boat's cruising speed over the ground and increase fuel consumption.

Fiber – GRP Boat

Today, the majority of the boats sold in the market are boats made of this type of material. All of the mass-produced boats are made of fiber. It is produced with fiber material, fiber, biax mesh fiber, special honeycomb foam, etc., allowing boats to be thinner, lighter but fairly durable. In fact, carbon material is added into the fiber if desired and carbon-hybrid boats are formed.

Fiber-type boats are very easy to maintain. Once a year, if you land, the boat will not be a problem for long periods of time if you take care of the car. Fiber boats are produced with three different chemical structural adapters. These are polyester, vinilester and epoxy materials. Each has its own characteristics. the most vulnerable and water-free material among them is polyester. this material is the highest risk of deterioration of the fiber structure when water enters. Vinilester is a more robust, water-resistant structural. It is more difficult to draw water into the fiber structure, which is the reason you prefer vinilester material for a longer-lasting boat.

Some boat manufacturers make solid vinilester seine before the outermost gelkot layer, while the inner layers are polyester. In this way, they increase the weakness. Since the cheapest material is polyester and prices for epoxy material are considered to increase, they do this to keep the costs low. If you are looking at a used boat and are interested in fiber boats, a sturdy and neutral body control is required before you buy. When fiber takes water into its interior, it starts to decay, which boat owners call osmosis.
