World’s Largest Sailboat From 1931 – Sea Cloud

New York stockbroker and yachtmaker Edward Francis Hutton introduced the Marjorie Merriweather Post, whom he married in 1920, to his three-masted Hussar boat. The Post and Hutton later built the world's largest sailboat, even the largest yacht of that time, in 1931. This yacht was, as it was then known as Hussar II. The yacht, designed by Cox & Stevens, was built by Friedrich Krupp in Kiel, Germany. After the couple's divorce, the sailboat sailed during World War II. During World War II, he served as a patrol ship for the U.S. Coast Guard. In 1955 it was sold to Rafael Trujillo, dictator of the Dominican Republic, and was renamed Angelita. When the dictator was overthrown, Clifford Barbour bought it and changed his name to Antarna.

The ship departs in Europe and the Caribbean as part of a fleet of sailing cruise ships, mostly affiliated with the National Geographic Society, run by Sea Cloud Cruises GmbH in Hamburg, Germany. Sea Cloud is now the world's oldest ocean-bound cruise ship.

At 5:20 a.m. on August 20, 2014, when i was towed to the alesta for south-north guidance of a cruise ship, I got up and prepared to join the Sea Cloud, which was sailing from Piraeus/Greece to Istanbul at 6:00 a.m.

Even though I saw a world of ships, it was the first time I'd ever called "Lovely Lady." (Later, the captain confirmed that everyone already says so.). Quality and elegance flowed all over him. I had the opportunity to ride the ship for about five minutes, and I was lost.

Those yellow materials, the curves of the ship, the woodworking, the staff's sense of service, the interior flooring, the equipment was at an unseen level on the ships today. About 60 personnel, 60 passengers. Eighteen people are looking after the sailing business (including Reis). This staff (mr.-lady) works on the poles as well as in pirate movies and opens the sails in 30 minutes and collects them in 40 minutes.

They can use the wind until they're 10 degrees from the stern to the boardboards. From what I've learned, they can do routine 6-7 knots, they saw nine knots last year, the max that the captain on him now sees on this ship in a good wind. the speed was 12 knots.
